GEA Technika Cieplna Sp. z o.o. has been operating from Opole, Poland since 1994. Previously known as GEA Metalchem Technika Cieplna Sp. z o.o.; in 1998 joined the family of GEA Group companies as the full right member. Aside form GEA there is hardly any company that can look back on 80 successful years in design, manufacture and construction of industrial heat exchangers. Through those years of operation and full client satisfaction, GEA Technika Cieplna has grown to be the leading manufacturer of high-grade Heat Exchangers in Poland and above.

The company plays the major economic role in the Silesia region. Economical impact on the community is substantial. With over 12,000 sq. meters of production facilities, GEA Technika Cieplna is ranked top among other leading manufacturing companies in Opole. 100 full-time, highly skilled employees and over 50 cooperating with the company on regular basis, are the major drive-force for company growth. The numbers says it all. The income from sales in 2002 totaled over 8M$ and has doubled since 1998. In 2003 income will reach another peak with estimated 7-8% growth over the year 2002.

GEA Heat Exchangers are frequently used in chemical, petrochemical and power industry. With state-of-the-art manufacture technology and sophisticated cleanness test for each and every transformer oil air coolers, GEA plays dominant role in the power and petrochemical industry. GEA products are also widely used in incineration plants and Pulp & Paper industry. Recently the Polish inventor has selected GEA Technika Cieplna to be the only supplier of heat exchangers for his innovative production line technology that cuts the operational costs by three fourths.

Heat Exchangers by GEA Technika Cieplna are very cost effective due to the use of unique, elliptical finned tube technology. Thanks to the use of that sophisticated technology, GEA is the only manufacturer of such heat exchange units in the county and one of the very few in the entire world. The use of elliptical finned tubes guarantees better heat transfer as well as price advantage over traditional round finned tubes.

Finned tubes are indispensable design elements where heat is to be exchanged economically between gases and liquids or between gases and condensing vapors. For that reason, finned tube heat exchangers are preferably used to cool or heat gases, especially air. With a view compensating for the significantly lower heat transmission achieved with air (compared with heat transmission with the use of water), thermal engineers increase the surface of the outer tubes by providing them with fins.

The higher the fin, the longer the heat transfer path. Moreover, the manner in which the fins are attached to the core tube has also a significant impact on the heat exchanger performance.

The fins used on steel or stainless steel core tubes are primary made of aluminum or hot-dip galvanized steel. Aluminum is easy to shape and has especially good heat transmission properties. The use of steel for the fins makes the tubes very robust and extremely resistant, which can be cleaned under high pressure, as well.

The most widely used manufacturing method consists in cutting fins from strip material and assembling them on the core tubes. This is a mechanical operation which is carried out automatically with great precision. The subsequent hot-dip galvanizing process serves not only to give the tubes protection against external effects, but also to forms metallic bond with good heat transfer properties between the fins and the core tube.
Besides round tubes, elliptically shaped core tubes of different dimensions are widely used. The elliptical tube shape reduces the air-side pressure loss inherent in finned tube systems and thus contributes significantly to the economic efficiency of this process in many applications.

The Main Advantages of Finned Tubes:

· aerodynamically efficient core tube; compared to round tubes, it flows resistance is smaller by a factor of about 3 to 10
· low pressure loss, as there is turbulence in wind-sheltered areas compared to round tubes
· high heat transmission coefficients and thus lower heat exchange area requirements
· good corrosion protection due to the hot-dip galvanizing coating
· compact size thanks to rectangular fins
· maximum service life
· application range: up to 200oC
with galvanization up to 360oC

· air preheaters in boiler plants, e.g. in power plants and waste incineration plants
